Please take care this November. We know fireworks are fun, but handled wrongly they can be very dangerous, as well as causing bushfires.
We’ve put together a safety list for you, so you can enjoy the fun while ensuring your family and friends stay safe.
Remember the Bastion way – Take Precaution. Prevent Fire. Save Life.
Please, please be responsible with fireworks.
- Don’t light fireworks if conditions are dry or windy.
- Follow manufacturer’s instructions at all times – they know the fireworks… you don’t.
- Ensure fireworks are lit in an open space, away from anything that could catch fire – dry grass, leaves or crops, or flammable gases or liquids
- Make sure you have a water supply nearby, buckets, hose, or if not, a fire extinguisher, in case of emergency.
- Please do check with your local bylaws before using fireworks in your area.
Prepare for your event:
- Read the instructions carefully ahead of the event and gather together all required tools.
- Prep your launching area – ensure you’ve got a wide-open space as above.
- Prep your emergency kit – buckets, hose, water supply, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, burn gel.
- Remember the matches!
Handling fireworks:
- Only adults should light fireworks.
- Ensure unlit fireworks are kept in their box well away from the launching area, until you are ready to use them.
- Point your fireworks towards the stars, well away from people, houses, or garden sheds.
- Don’t attempt to light a damaged firework.
- Allow used fireworks to fully cool before disposing of them.
